About

The Carolina Chocolate Drops were an old-time string band from North Carolina. Taught by fiddler Joe Thompson, the last in a long line of traditional string band players in his family, the members of Carolina Chocolate Drops played fiddle, banjo and bones, and sang. They won a Grammy for their 2010 album Genuine Negro Jig, and contibuted to a new understanding of American musical history and Africa’s role in it. The group is no longer together.
